Prague Before Breakfast

The city is at its most generous before the tables are set and the first coffee is poured.

I followed the tram lines through streets still shining from the night rain. A bell sounded somewhere beyond the square, and for a few minutes the whole morning seemed to belong only to the bakeries, the pigeons, and me.

A Path Above the Clouds

By noon the valley had disappeared beneath a slow white tide. I kept walking until the only sounds were gravel under my boots and cowbells drifting up from somewhere I could no longer see.

The Blue Hour at Garda

After sunset, the lake held every village light without a ripple. I stayed on the wall until the stones cooled and the little boat below became only a dark shape in the blue.

Between Stations

The rain erased the names on the platforms before I could read them. I left my book open, watched the lights slide across the glass, and let the train decide how long the night should be.

A Table by the Window

I meant to stop for ten minutes and stayed for two hours. The owner watered the plants across the lane, chairs scraped over the pavement, and my map slowly became less important.

The Long Way South

We ignored the faster road and followed the coast instead. Every bend offered another reason to stop: wind in the dry grass, a strip of impossible blue, and nowhere we had to be before dark.
